Tardies, Absences, & Dress Code

The Handbook states:
ABSENCES

Attendance is an extremely important component of the school program. Regular attendance is a key to good school grades, overall achievement, and a rewarding educational experience. Additionally, Tennessee state law requires it.
Students who are absent from school must provide the office a written note from the parent or physician explaining the absence. The doctor’s statement must be submitted the first day the student returns to school.
Absences shall be classified as either excused or unexcused. Excused absences shall include:

·         Personal illness (doctor’s excuse required after the third day); STUDENTS ARE TO BE FEVER FREE FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE RETURNING TO SCHOOL WITHOUT FEVER REDUCING MEDICATIONS.
·         Illness of immediate family member (doctor’s excuse required after the third day);
·         Death in the family;
·         Circumstances that, in the judgment of the principal, create emergencies over which the student has no control.

Where possible, parents are encouraged to schedule doctor and dental appointments for times outside the regular school day. However, if a child must be checked out of school early, he/she must be signed out in the school’s main office.

State Law requires that parents be notified in writing when a student has missed five (5) days of school.  These do not have to be consecutive days.

Attendance Plan:
3 Unexcused Absences: Letter will be sent home with an attendance record attached. Letter will be signed by an administrator and kept on file.

6 Unexcused Absences: Letter will be mailed home with an attendance record attached. Letter will be signed by an administrator and kept on file. Parent Conference may be needed.

10 Unexcused Absences: Letter will be mailed home ( ) with an attendance record attached. Letter signed by administrator and guidance counselor. A review with parents, principal and teacher will be held.

TARDINESS:
I would like to remind you all that school does start promptly at 7:45 a.m. Students are tardy if they are not in class when the bell rings. Our teachers get started first thing, as to not waste a minute of instructional time. So please be understanding and considerate of their hard work, and have your child at school on time. We understand that unavoidable circumstances sometimes do occur, resulting in late arrivals, but it is important that tardies are as infrequent as possible. Students can easily get behind and be embarrassed if they are continually late. Thank you so much for helping us on this matter! Your child’s education is very important to us!
The Handbook states:
TARDINESS

Excessive tardies will demand consequences appropriate to the age and level of the student.
Grades PreK-4 - The morning bell rings at 7:45am and the outside doors are locked at this time.  Any student arriving after this time will have to report to the school office.  Students who are late must be accompanied into the school office by a parent or the person responsible for bringing them to school.  The school sign in sheet must be signed before the student will be admitted to class.
Reminder- Three unexcused tardies are recorded as an unexcused absence.

UNIFORM DRESS POLICY:

We need to discuss our dress code. Most of the time, everyone is following the handbook guidelines. We just want to continue to have uniformity among the entire student body. As a school, we will be addressing these violations with a phone call, and a form will be sent home when this happens. Please be aware of the basic colors that students are allowed to wear, and use the handbook as your guide. Help us be unified as a school, and thank you again for supporting us in this matter.

Hoodies can be worn to and from school as well as outdoor school activities such as P.E. However, it is a school-wide policy that hoodies cannot be worn in the actual classroom. The student handbook states that students can wear grey or black fleece jackets in the classroom. In Elementary, hoodies can be worn on Friday in honor of spirit days!
The Handbook states:
Ezell-Harding students are expected to reflect a Christ-like attitude and behavior by dressing modestly and being neatly groomed. Inappropriately dressed students will be prohibited from attending class. In addition to having a direct effect on a student's academic performance, we believe appropriate dress is a major advantage for students seeking scholastic recognition and post-secondary opportunities.
