You Smile...I Smile

Hello Parents,

I hope this weekly newsletter/blog finds you all having a wonderful week! The students are really hitting the books hard this week, and I can tell their minds are being challenged. As we are getting into school, we are still working out some kinks. The arrival/drop off is getting better, but just remain patient as we all are learning the system. Thank you for understanding.

This week brings new activities that are happening in our building:

First I would like to tell you to check out the "Eagle News" tab. Each week I will be uploading pictures of student's work or things that are happening in our building. I feel this is a great way for you to be included and informed on the events/work going on in our school. There are several pictures of student's work under the tab!!

**The right side of the blog has lots of important information, so be sure to look there every week!**

NEW: Terrific Tickets have started this week. You will find a tab at the top of the blog. If your child receives a terrific ticket, their picture will be posted under this tab. You will also receive an email letting you know when they will be honored at the next Thursday chapel. We would like you to come if possible and see your child receive a certificate in front of the whole elementary. This is an honor, and we want the students to be proud and encouraged about the choices they are making each day.

New on the blog this week is "Dinner Discussions." I like to encourage the daily "talk." So on the RIGHT SIDE of the blog home page you will find a POLL. I would like for you to ask your child(ren) the question(s) and let them help poll the answer(s). This is a great way for us all to be communicating together in an exciting way. We can all learn new things about each other and use the Internet! So let's discuss and communicate even if it's just a fun poll question.

Also NEW this week is Princi "PAL" time. I am really wanting to get to know each child in the elementary. They are all so bright and encouraging to be around. So the teachers and I have teamed up and found times that I can come around and read short stories to the classes each week. This week I read about courage and perseverance. The book taught us that "brave people think things through and ask 'Is this the best way to do this?' and we win many of life's rewards by learning how to hang in there and work till the very end!" I am really enjoying this time, and I look forward to being in class with your children over the next couple of weeks. We really do have wonderful students and AMAZING teachers!!

The pre-kindergarteners had a special guest come last Friday. "Bringing Books to Life" is a free preschool literacy program created by the Nashville Public Library. They provide a fun-filled story time in the classroom. The children received the benefit of a rollicking read-aloud with music and movement. They had a blast with this neat program.

A few housekeeping items:

**Mini Cheer Campers will be performing at this Friday's tailgate and home football game!

**We are having a girl scout troop here at school, so be looking for information to come home soon about this program!

**Fine Art Academy money due Monday, August 29th.

**Lunch Menus- the menu will be posted each month on RenWeb. The following items are served daily:  Jello, GoGurt, Salad, Green Beans, and a fruit choice(they can choose any of those sides with their entree). She usually has 2-3 vegetables on the line. If you have more questions let us know! Feel free to join us anytime for lunch. We would love to see you!

Wonderful Week...

Hello Parents,

Everyone is really getting into a groove now! I love seeing you all at drop off and pick up! We have such a wonderful group of students! I hope you all are loving the new lobby as much as we are enjoying being in it everyday! There is so much going on already, and I want to fill you in on all of it.

The football team came to the Eagle's Nest today to lead our Devotional. What great role models those young men are to our spiritual growing students. It was wonderful to watch high school students and elementary school students interact together while singing and praising God in worship. Cory Teague spoke about treating others like you want to be treated! The students loved being able to walk through a tunnel the football players made and giving them a high five! I love the support we show between schools and to each other!  Please click on the "Eagle News" tab to see pictures from today's devotional.

I sent out an email yesterday with our drop off procedures on it. I hope you find this helpful and understand that your child's safety is first priority. Please take a few minutes to read over it!

There have been many questions about lunch and the policies in the cafeteria. We are currently working on a way to better communicate the menu with you. Cindy serves several items that are not always mentioned on the menu. Please be patient with us as we make changes. *Note: we have changed the charging policy back to where the students can choose what they need to charge due to forgetting their lunch or money.

The FUNDRAISERS have begun. Please get out there and help support our school. I know you all are already doing this, but just a reminder the turn in dates are August 23rd and 30th.

We will have a boy scout leader come and speak to our boys on Tuesday, August 30th.

I hope you all found lots of good clothing items in our spirit trailer! There is so much excitement around our first High School Football game tomorrow night! So let's dress in school spirit tomorrow and jeans!

I would like to thank all of those parents who have offered to volunteer. We will be contacting you soon for help with various activities around school. We appreciate you all so much, and we are happy you want to be involved.  I believe that the more a parent participates in their child's schooling whether it be- in advocacy, decision-making and oversight roles, through fundraisers and boosters, and/or as volunteers and para-professionals- the better for the student achievement.

Lastly, you will find two new tabs at the top of the page. If you click on "Terrific Ticket", you will see what all the excitement is about in receiving one of those. The other tab is "Discipline Policy" where you will find the policy and standards we are trying to uphold in our school. We believe all students deserve a safe environment where they can enhance their self-esteem, discover the joy of learning, and take important steps toward learning responsible decision-making.  Our goal in effective discipline is to help students learn to make appropriate choices through personal accountability and guided problem solving. As educators, we share the responsibility with parents to promote character building and service to our community.

Hello Parents!!

HELLO PARENTS!!

I can't express enough how amazing the first couple of days have been here at Ezell-Harding! I have seen lots of enthusiastic parents and students. I have truly enjoyed getting to meet you all this week! There are so many things to discuss with you already!

We would like to know who wants to help! We are starting a PTO, and your classroom teacher is helping get information out for that! We would also like you to let your child's teacher know if you want to help in other ways around the school. We are wanting parents not only here at school but also involved at school.  I already have needs for some parent volunteers.

Today, we had our first all school chapel. It was so wonderful to have all of the students together singing and praising God. I know our little ones really enjoyed seeing the "big kids!" I will have some pictures posted later when I get all the photo permission forms turned in.

We also had our fundraiser kick off meeting. We had a represenative from Entertainment book, Smart Card, and Magazines to share with us the prizes we would win if we get out there and sell! The students were so excited to hear about what they will earn! Please help us in our effort to raise funds for the school. I love the Entertainment book and Smart Cards, because both have some great new coupons in the front this year! You should check it out!

Like I have stated above, it has been a great start to this school year, and I would like to make mention of some new additions that we have on staff in our Elementary Building.
 * Caroline Bumpus is our new Spanish Teacher. She graduated from Lipscomb University and has lived in Mexico for the last year. We are glad to have her apart of our team! She will teach PK-8th grade!
*Lynette Shields is new to our building. She will be teaching ART to our students! We are happy to have her with us!
*Laura Ice,who taught here several years ago, is back and teaching 1st grade. She is also going to be running an after school Fine Arts program! We are very excited to have her with us!
*Kaysha Sells is our new Kindergarten teacher. She just graduated from Tennessee Tech University, and we are excited she is apart of our staff.
*Kristy Pomeroy is our new Guidance Counselor. She was a Director of  Residental Transition Centers. We are thrilled to have her as apart of our team as well!

We have lots of new and exciting things happening in our school. Next week, during our chapel on Thursday, we will have the gentlemen on the football team come and speak to us. Our students will get to see  and meet them before their first game on Friday! What a fun time for our children!
