Make-A-Wish
As you all know, our school is currently doing a service project for "Make-A-Wish". We are raising money in order to help grant the wish of a child with a life-threatening medical condition. We hope by doing this, we can enrich that child's life with hope, strength, and joy. It's a wonderful opportunity for our students to have a hand in making that child's wish come true and giving them something that is ultimately priceless. Our elementary friends are helping with this by paying $2 to dress up. They can either dress up with the theme that goes with each date listed below, OR they can pay $2 to wear jeans and an Ezell T-shirt. Either way, they are helping us raise the money for our cause. Look for me, because I'll be dressing up each day.
The days are...
March 7: "Serious day" (The business side of education - suits, etc.)
March 14: "Backwards day"
March 28: "Back in the day" (Hippies, 70's, 80's dress)
April 4: "Western/farm day" (overalls, pig tails, painted freckles on faces, cowboys and cowgirls)
**We are trying to make a child's wish come true, and together with some "cool" dress up days, we can help make it happen!**

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART:
Envelopes will be going home with your child tomorrow, February 24. This year there is a new online feature which will make this proccess much easier. The website is www.heart.org/jump. Our jump day will be on March 9th, so be sure to read your information packet and get started. Next week, I will post our AMAZING PRIZES that our "top fundraisers" will receive and what will happen if we make our school goal!!

Tooth Fairy:
The tooth fairy visited the pre-K through 1st grade on Tuesday, February 22. She taught them how to brush and floss by dressing up several students as teeth and a tongue. See picture to the left, and you will find more under the "Eagle News" tab.

Upcoming Events:
February 23 = All parents are invited to hear Roger Dinwitty from Stars Nashville to talk about cyber and school bullying at 6:30 p.m. in the high school commons.

February 29th = School-wide "Make-A-Wish" T-shirt and jeans day (you do not pay $2 for this day, but if you would like a shirt, we are still selling them for $10. All money goes toward the project). If you do not have a "Make-A-Wish" T-shirt your child is to be in regular school uniform. Thank you all for participating and helping with our service project!

March 2nd = "Donuts with the Principal"

March 8th = Elementary Chorus will be leading us in Chapel

Lots Coming Up...

Hello Parents,
I hope you all have had a wonderful week. Ours has been very exciting with our Valentine's Day activities. I had the best time watching our wonderful students walk around and share their love. They had smiles on their faces and they truly enjoyed giving out their "love"/ Valentines to their friends and teachers. 1 Corinthians 13 it describes what love should be: "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." With the giving of many Valentines this year, I saw lots of love and kindness. What a wonderful group of children we have in our EHCS family!

Let's talk about Box Tops. We have a few weeks left before the deadline of February 27. I will now reveal how the prizes will work for our top classes. I will be combining each grade level totals, so the winners will be grade levels and not individual classes. In conclusion, many students will win so keep cutting, clipping, and bagging those box tops. The prizes will be as follows:

3rd place: Pizza and ice cream party
2nd place: Extra 30 minutes of PE, plus pizza, & ice cream party

Grand Prize Winner: Extra 30 minutes of PE, Pizza and ice cream party, plus... six students will have their names drawn out of a hat and will get to throw a PIE in my face in front of the entire Elementary School.

I believe it's worth bringing in those box tops!!

We are continuing our efforts in our service project for Make-A-Wish. T-shirts are still available, if you would like to buy one, and we will be having a "Make-A-Wish" T-shirt and jeans day on February 29. Each building is also coming up with ways to raise money for Make-A-Wish. Our elementary friends love to dress up and be out of uniforms, so we are going to have four days in the months of March/April in which your child can participate by paying $2 to dress up each week. The MONEY WILL HELP OUR SERVICE PROJECT!! Here are the days:

March 7: "Serious day" (The business side of education - suits ect.)
March 14: "Backwards day"
March 28: "Back in the day" (Hippies, 70's, 80's dress)
April 4: "Western/farm day" (overalls, pig tails, painted freckles on faces, cowboys, and cowgirls)
You do not have to participate in any of these days, and  if students want to wear jeans and an Ezell T-shirt on these select days you can if they PAY $2; otherwise, they are to be in their regular school uniforms! We are trying to make a child's wish come true, and together with some "cool" dress up days, we can help make it happen!

It's Almost Valentine's Day...

Hello Wonderful Parents,

I would like to start off this week by saying THANK YOU! Our cookie dough sale was a huge success, and that credit goes to you all. Our school sold over $10,000 in sales. Thank you for your continued support of our school and all that we are trying to accomplish to provide for our amazing students. So again, thank you.

We had the joy and pleasure of our second grade friends leading us in chapel today. They led us in songs and scriptures about love, based on 1 Corinthians 13. The lesson made me think of how very important it is that we know what love is. I have no doubt that on some occasion you have been in a dark room - perhaps an old shed - and seen little shafts of light penetrating the gloom.  If you were to trace the beams of light back to their source, they would take you to the sun. So it is with love: trace it back, and it will take you to God. In the Ten Commandments, the principle is laid down, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Love never wrongs a neighbor; that is why Jesus said that love is the fulfilling of the law. After all, love is a principle; it is a way of life. Our little source of light this morning was shown through our wonderful second graders, who brought us the gift of love. Thank you, friends, for the amazing job you did this morning and for reminding us how important love is to each of us! (See "Eagle News" tab for a few pictures)

This month is our big time push for BOX TOPS! The turn in date is February 28th, and our goal is 20,000 box tops. I've challenged the students to look for box tops everywhere and make sure not to throw any away. We have made wonderful strides so far, and I want to finish out the month strong. There will be a 3rd, 2nd, and grand prize winner. So please keep cutting, clipping, and bagging those box tops for our school! I say thank you a lot, but you all are so wonderful in helping out and supporting our school.

Get your candy grams! We are selling candy grams for Valentine's Day. They are being offered as a way to send a special Valentine's message to friends, family, teachers, etc!! You can even write your own special message on the inside. The orders are due tomorrow, February 10. The cost is $2 per candy gram.

Parents, we are excited to announce that Ezell-Harding will be offering a free workshop on one aspect of social networking – cyberbullying. Mr. P. Rodger Dinwiddie from the Stars Nashville organization (http://www.stars.nashville.org/ ) will be our guest speaker.  Mr. Dinwiddie specializes in prevention and intervention training and is the Certified National Lead Trainer for the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. This workshop will take place in the high school commons area on Thursday, February 23, at 6:30 p.m.

Looking Ahead:

February...

Hello Parents,
Can you believe it is February already? The weather is warm, and time is flying by! I would like to start off this week by telling you all what a wonderful job our elementary chorus did on Friday. They sang the National Anthem for our Coming Home basketball game. See video below to hear their performance. I'm so proud of our many programs and all the students being involved!
Today in chapel, we had a special group come sing for us. They are called "Half Past 6," and they shared the word of God through song. I have always drawn great strength from songs. Songs deliver the message of Jesus Christ, and I know my strength comes from Him. It is so refreshing to know that we can rest in the strength and comfort that God will provide when facing troubles of many kinds. Let Him have the glory and show himself strong. 2 Chronicles 16:9 says, "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him." God wants to show Himself strong on your behalf, and we were all blessed by the way God showed Himself through song this morning.

Last week, we finished our book drive. We did a tremendous job: the elementary alone brought in almost 2,200 books! Mrs. Walters' class, who won the class competition for books, brought in almost 500 books by themselves. Their class received an extra 30 minutes of P.E., as well as ice cream! With all that being said, I wanted to give a big thank you to the whole school for helping those underprivileged children. All our students participated with this wonderful service project, and I'm proud of them!

Also in January, we continued our competition for bringing in box tops. In the month of January alone, we brought in 6,800 box tops! We are so close to our final goal of 20,000! We have one month left to bring them in, so let's end strong! At the end of February, one class will be named the grand prize winner  and will receive an "awesome prize." We will also be giving something to the 2nd and 3rd place classes, so keep cutting, clipping, and bagging those box tops.

**Remember to sell that cookie dough. Our last day for turn in is tomorrow, February 3.

**Next week, our 2nd grade friends will be leading us in chapel. Parents, you are of course welcome to join us!

**Our Pre-K is SUPER BOWL READY! We hope you all enjoy the "big game" on Sunday! (DON'T FORGET TO VOTE FOR THE WINNER UNDER "Dinner Discussion.")

NO SCHOOL = February 20th (President's Day)
