There is much to share...

Hello Parents,

Welcome back! It is so good to see all of my friends again this week. I would like to start off by saying there are several new pictures on the blog. If you look under both "Work/Friends" and "Eagle News" you will find "pie in face" and "back in the day," photos!! Parents, I owe you many thank you's for the support you have shown our school. The pie event was an incentive earned by for your amazing participation in our box top drive this year. Our "back in the day" dress up day was part of our ongoing service project to make a child's dream come true!! You all are wonderful! Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Talent Show: We are working on the details to our show. Any of our 2nd-6th grade friends may audition. Our sign-ups will be held on the same day as the auditions. The order in which your child signs up will be the order in which he or she will audition, so if you wish, you may pick your child up accordingly. Otherwise, we will keep all auditioners with us until we complete the audition process, and if no one is here to pick them up, they will be checked into extended care.
We welcome all types of talent!!
When: Next Thursday, April 5
Time: 3:00 p.m.
Where: Meet in Eagle's Nest
**If you are singing it must be to a karaoke track and you must bring it with you. (Itunes has tons of inexpensive karaoke tracks)

Requesting a Classroom Teacher - Please Read Carefully
We will be using a NEW process this year for requesting a specific teacher for the next school year. We will be accepting teacher requests during a two-week period, April 16-27. I will try to honor as many requests as possible, but I cannot guarantee that all request will be granted. Remember that classroom assignments are made based on a variety of important factors, such as overall numbers, gender, class mix, and teacher recommendations. In order for your request to be considered, you need to re-enroll by the April 15 deadline. No request will be accepted after April 27. We love and appreciate all of our families, and I will do my best to honor your requests as much as possible.

AFTERNOON SOCCER:
Just a reminder that soccer lets out at 4 p.m. If your child is not picked up by that time, they will be checked into extended day.

Our last dress-up day for Make-A-Wish is next Wednesday, April 7. I am encouraging every child to participate. If we have 90% participation next Wednesday, then our students will earn an entire week of T-shirt and jean days. So bring in your $2, and let's "farm" together.

Our highly-anticipated, Spring Sprint and Grandparents Day, is just around the corner! Please be sure to let your grandparents know about this exciting, special day! Our students will be participating in a special assembly at 8:30 a.m. to honor their grandparents. This is also our last fundraiser of the school year. So mark this date on your calendars, Friday, April 13.

Before the Break...

Hello Parents,

Only one day until Spring Break! I know the students are very excited about the upcoming break. Don't forget it has been extended through Monday, March 26. So we will not see their bright smiles until Tuesday, March 27. There will be childcare available; please contact Lisa Phillips if you will need that service. I do hope you all have some wonderful family time together and get to relax in this warm spring weather!

Make-A-Wish Update:
As a school, we are so grateful for all those who have been participating in our efforts to raise money for our school-wide service project. The students looked awesome yesterday in their "backwards" clothes! So many of them were creative and even took it to the next level by walking backwards to a lot of places! It is our desire to make a child's wish come true. We have TWO dress-up days left. On March 28, I'm a looking forward to our "Back in the Day" dress-up opportunity(50s, hippies, 70s, 80s and so on)! If you want to just wear jeans and a T-shirt ,you may, but be sure to bring in your $2 to help our cause! THANK YOU!!!!

PTO:
I just wanted to say thank you for your efforts, and let you know that the things you do for Ezell-Harding do not go unnoticed.  You all are a necessary piece to this puzzle.  I appreciate your dedication and service, and I know our students and teachers do, too. This week has been amazing, and my words alone cannot express how thankful I am for our PTO and all the parents who helped out and got involved! You all ROCK!
**SPIRIT NIGHT TONIGHT @ CHICK-FIL-A in Smyrna (5-7 p.m.)

Our book drive, as you all know, was a huge success. We brought in over 3,000 books! The results are in from Book'em, and we placed 2nd overall. There were about 20 Nashville schools that participated, and I'm so proud of what we were able to accomplish by providing children with their own books!

Friday, we will have an assembly at 8:05 a.m. This will be a time set aside to celebrate our goal- busting box tops drive. All of our students helped us bring in over 20,000 box tops. Our third grade friends, who brought in the most, will get to pie me in the face 6 times. Fun times for everyone involved!

Lots of activities...

Hello Friends and Families,

As usual, there are a lot of activities going on here at school, and I love filling you all in each week. First, this week we honored our chess club team in praise chapel on Monday. They competed this past Saturday at BGA and placed 6th out of 20 teams. Three of our young friends, Matthan Smith, Eric Garner, and Fabricio Farghaly (see picture to the right) helped bring home the trophy. Way to go, Chess Club!!

**Way to go, elementary Chorus!! Our singers did an amazing job this morning in chapel! I am so proud of them! We have a very talented group of students, and I love to see them use those talents to bring praise and honor to our Heavenly Father.

We also had our first dress-up day for Make-A-Wish. Our students had the "serious look" going on, and they were incredibly cute! I can't say thank you enough for all the participation we had yesterday. This money goes to an important cause, and this service project is being done school wide. Our elementary friends have started off great, and we have another opportunity to participate next week. On March 14, we will have "backwards day" or jeans and an Ezell T-shirt day (just be sure to bring your $2). Thank you again for supporting our project! THERE ARE PICTURES OF OUR "SERIOUS DAY" FRIENDS UNDER THE "WORK/FRIENDS" tab!

PTO:
Calling all parents!! The PTO welcomes all parents and teachers to join the PTO to share your ideas, raise your concerns, and contribute your talents to enhance Ezell-Harding and our community. I encourage all parents and teachers to join the PTO (I have, and you can too) by completing the membership form linked on the top right of this blog; (it says, "PTO MEMBERSHIP FORM!! CLICK HERE!!"). By becoming a member, you will be included on all their communications/e-mails, and you can contact them with ideas/thoughts you may have.  The PTO Board appreciates any time you can offer; it helps us all to create even more successful programs and events for our Ezell-Harding students.  Thank you in advance for your support!  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

**Also next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. We love, LOVE our teachers and all the hard work they devote and dedication they have to teaching our precious students. The PTO is sponsoring this event. Here is what is happening each day:
*Monday, give your teacher an appreciation card.
*Tuesday, bring your teacher a flower.
*Wednesday, teacher pot luck luncheon.
*Thursday, give the teachers a break, coffee and treats in lounge.
*Friday, free drink coupon to Sonic.

We also have a Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A in Smyrna on March 15th!! I really hope everyone can come out and fellowship with one another!

We are all having loads of fun training for the Country Music Kids Half-Marathon. We are running a mile after school four days a week (Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri.) There is still an opportunity to sign up online and join our team! We will be training up till the big day. On April 27, the students will complete their 26th mile which ends on LP field. It is an exciting event to participate in, so please feel free to join us!! I will have to say it is a great feeling of accomplishment for all!!

Jump Rope for Heart:
Don't forget tomorrow is "jump day", and we need all our donations and pledges in by then. If we reach our goal of $5,000, Coach Riley and Coach Leebrick will kiss a pig (ANYBODY HAVE ACCESS TO A PIG WE CAN USE?) Also, if we reach our goal, I will be put in jail for a day! Our top 30 fundraisers will get snow cones!

Tonight...Big Game

Hello Parents,

I must start off by saying that tonight is a big night for our Lady Eagles basketball team. They are headed to state and are playing Knox Webb at 5:15 p.m. Our ladies have practiced and played their hearts out to get this special opportunity to play for a state title. They have definitely earned it, and I know God has allowed them to be at this place right here right now. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 states,
"You've all been to the stadium and seen the
athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You're after one that's gold eternally. I don't know about you, but I'm running hard for the finish line. I'm giving it everything I've got. No sloppy living for me! I'm staying alert and in top condition."

This we can apply to our lives. Let's run to win for God's glory! Go LADY EAGLES!!

On that note, starting this Monday, we will have training after school for our half-marathon runners. It will be on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Friday from 2:40-3:00. There are still spot available if you want to sign up online.

I'm so proud of our students! Our goal was 20,000 box tops, and we surpassed that goal by thousands. Our students brought in 22, 568 box tops! I would like to thank you, parents, for your support in this project. Box Tops for Education allows us to get many things we need in the classroom and we could not do it without your help! Our top three grade levels were 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade, and part of their reward is pizza on Friday. This means that students in those grades do not need to bring a lunch on Friday.

I would also like to mention that our 2nd through 4th grade students have all entered a writing competition that is held state wide, among many different schools. This story is to be written without any help and will be judged. A special awards ceremony will be held at Lipscomb once the stories have been read. I will have more information soon. We have very talented and creative young students, and I'm glad to see them expressing their thoughts through stories.

Don't Forget.... Make-A-Wish
As you all know, our school is currently doing a service project for "Make-A-Wish". We are raising money in order to help grant the wish of a child with a life-threatening medical condition. We hope that by doing this, we can enrich that child's life with hope, strength, and joy. It's a wonderful opportunity for our students to have a hand in making that child's wish come true and giving them something that is ultimately priceless. Our elementary friends are helping with this by paying $2 to dress up. They can either dress up with the theme that goes with each date listed below, OR they can pay $2 to wear jeans and an Ezell T-shirt. Either way, they are helping us raise the money for our cause. Look for me, because I'll be dressing up each day.
The days are...
March 7: "Serious day" (The business side of education - suits, etc.)
March 14: "Backwards day"
March 28: "Back in the day" (Hippies, 70's, 80's dress)
April 4: "Western/farm day" (overalls, pig tails, painted freckles on faces, cowboys and cowgirls)
**We are trying to make a child's wish come true, and together with some "cool" dress up days, we can help make it happen!**

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART:
This year, there is a new online feature which will make the fundraising proccess much easier. The website is www.heart.org/jump. Our jump day will be on March 9, so be sure to go ahead and get started. Our goal is $5,000 and if we reach this goal Coach Riley and Coach Leebrick will kiss a pig. (Does anyone have access to one?) On this same day, I will be put in jail in the Eagles Nest all day. Also, the top 30 individual fundraisers will get snow cones! The top class will get a movie in the Eagles Nest. So let's get going!

Tomorrow, we will have "Donuts with the Principal." First through fourth grade will receive certificates for honor roll and principal's list. Also, this six weeks, our kindergarten friends will join us. If they have said six of their sight word lists, they will receive a certificate and a donut. I'm thrilled at how many students we will be rewarding tomorrow. Keep working hard, friends!

Lastly, parents, mark your calendars for next Thursday. Our Fine Arts Chorus will be leading us in chapel!
